PEEL

PLACE DES ARTS

SPRINGBOARD DANSE MONTREAL

MONTREAL 2016

Created by Spenser Theberge

Performed by attendees of Springboard Danse Montreal

'PEEL' was presented in 2016 at Place des Arts in Montreal as part of the Emerging Choreographer's showcase at Springboard Danse Montreal.  The installation is for 24 performers, masking tape, and a microphone and amplifier for live text and sound manipulation.

The installation takes place in a public space--- at the intersection of a metro station, food court, and lobby of a theater.  Because this location was full of pedestrian movement, the performers were able to accumulate unnoticed until they took over the area.  As the piece nears the end, the performers remove the tape and take the microphone and amplifier with them, removing all trace of their work.  They leave the space as they found it--- a current of pedestrian locomotion.
